Dreamy Boudoir In Marietta, Ohio

These are some notes from a recent boudoir session in our downtown Marietta, Ohio portrait studio. Hot Tomato is tucked in the third floor of an old bank building with quite the history and gorgeous light. It might come as no surprise to anyone that when memories pop in my head, the detail that is always formed first in my mind’s eye is what the light “felt” like in the room that moment. My artist brain automatically records the mood. It drinks in the richness of shadows or notes the stark lack of any cloud cover. My artist brain especially likes those days when the shadow play and mood intersect in just the right places and the scene seems just a touch magical.

This was one of those sessions. Everything collided in the perfect tangle of light, shadow, vulnerability and laughter. This boudoir session and client forever will be painted in my mind with nervous giggle and how her red, red lips added a touch of  retro Upper West Side Manhattan glam to her look. The fur coat and stiletto heels only sealed the deal. Her body may be in Appalachia but her heart belongs to New York City.

Her clothing and lingerie choices were timeless in that high waisted pin-up girl kind of way – is this the 40’s or is it the 70’s? When people see these images thirty or fifty years from now, the art of the tattoos will be the real give away on the era. This beauty who started out a bit shy and nervous took the leap and let me pull, bend, twist and breathe the nerves right out of her and together we revealed this magnificent creature. You know, the one all her favorite people see when they catch a glimpse of her in those intimate moments, talking about something that lets all the light into her soul or right after she wakes up and is still a little sleepy. Yes, that one, that girl. The one she forgets is there sometimes. The one we all forget exists within us sometimes. Yes, that’s the one.
